Rainbow Design Services, Inc. is a privately held company located in Louisville, Kentucky. The company was founded by Jeff Mardis in early 1994 in Paris, Tennessee. Jeff having a long standing career and significant background in cable television initially went into business doing CATV design for other larger regional contractors.
In late 1995, Jeff made a family decision to return to Louisville, Kentucky his hometown. Reluctant to go back to work for another MSO, he took a chance and continued to try and grow his business. Although very difficult at times, he quickly realized that in order to establish long-term security for the company, we would have to secure work directly with his customers (MSO’s initially) and offer a broader range of services.
In April of 1996 we secured Rainbow Design Services first contract with Viacom Cable of Nashville. They were in the midst of their 750 MHz rebuild and unsatisfied with their current design contractor. We finished the final 1100 miles of design within some very aggressive time constraints. About the time the Nashville project was near completion, InterMedia Partners, which owned the surrounding systems, purchased Viacom. This led to additional work in the Middle Tennessee region.
In 1997, InterMedia acquired several TCI/TKR properties in Kentucky and awarded us contracts for Louisville, Covington, Bowling Green, and counties adjacent to Louisville. This allowed for steady growth for the next several years. In 1998, due to all the growth of the company and in order to meet the needs of our customers, Rainbow Design Services opened up its first Commercial office facility. We quickly out grew this facility and within a year were on the move. In 2000, the Cable Television industry experienced a vast market upswing. As a result, Rainbow Design Services’ workload significantly increased and for the first time we staffed and ran a second shift.
In 2004, Rainbow Design Services again hit another major milestone. The company was awarded the Focus One Conversion for the Columbus Division of Time Warner Cable. In addition to our existing workload our staff was now committed to 8400 miles of drafting and design to be completed over a year and half, a project we completed ahead of schedule.
In 2005 Rainbow Design Services hit another significant milestone by winning the largest Fiber project in it’s history; We once again secured a major contract with Insight Communication in Louisville, Kentucky to document their entire fiber network, it was this project that seemed to be the real shift in our business by placing Fiber Engineering services at the forefront of everything we do, and from this project forward our queue of major Fiber documentation projects has never gone empty!
With all the growth and demands of our customers, we had again outgrown our location. Rainbow Design Services purchased a brand new 6,700 square foot building that opened in June of 2008. This new facility is the home and headquarters of Rainbow Design Services, while we still maintain our previous location due to the size of our growing staff.
Throughout the years, Rainbow Design Services, Inc. has established many close working relationships with our customers. Through our expanding services and increased knowledge we have been afforded many opportunities. We have established a strong reputation within the Telecommunications Industry. Our high-quality and on time completion of projects have proven to be the catalyst for continued success and have made Rainbow Design Services, Inc. a vital part of our customer’s day-to-day operations.
