Serviceability for the Service Provider
Rainbow Design Services, Inc. has been providing a multitude of services to the Telecom industry for more than 20 years … principally Outside Plant Engineering and Documentation services (mapping). In providing these Engineering services, we have become expert at collecting, modeling, and mapping networks as well as at Engineering & Planning for new build – with extreme accuracy and intense attention to detail. We have in the process, lived in CAD, GIS and OSP Modeling solutions and software – all along with the knowledge that our resulting efforts were being used to make thousands of decisions…
At the very center of everything GIS and OSP Models provide is the question “Is the following address / potential customer serviceable?” Good maps and OSP records can help answer this question and help speed closing that new customer. Going further – A deep understanding of GIS and the many GIS tools available on the market today, bundled with OSP Engineering expertise, field knowledge and some very customized processes applying all of these things – and the result is a highly refined “Serviceability Service” and “Desktop Survey” offering.
Most critical to securing NEW BUSINESS is: HOW FAST DO THESE QUESTIONS GET ANSWERED?
| •Commercial Acounts |
•Residential Accounts |
| •Cell Towers (backhaul) |
•other |
| •Sales Target lists |
|
So, whether it is “in-system” Field Survey services your group needs, a total “Desktop / Software Survey” you desire or mix of the two – Rainbow Design Services is here to help. We can offer you a complete software based decision preventing any roll of trucks, a custom set of rules designed to reduce the number of truck roles and/or a blended solution providing both the initial “Desktop Survey” coupled with a true Field Survey – and if desired, ALL of these options coupled with real-world plant extension design and build cost estimate!
Working in your GIS / OSP Records
Whether your OSP records / maps are in any of the following formats or not, we can help:
| •Focus95 |
•Bentley Comms (any version) |
| •Focus98 |
•AutoCAD / LODE Data |
| •FocusOne |
•OSPInsight |
| •Microstation |
•SPATIALinfo |
| •AutoCAD |
•other |
Are your records geospatially accurate? We can help verify that they are, and consult with resolving concerns/issues with making them so if not. Conflation, projection / re-projection, aligning disparate maps and coordinate systems --- all are areas of expertise for our group. Rainbow Design Services, Inc. has been offering GIS services for more than 20 years.
Working in your CRM
We are accustomed to, and a prepared to operate inside your Sales & Marketing / CRM systems as well. Many of our existing customers are using systems like SalesForce.com to track requests for service, and in those cases our group is integrated into the ticketing process and working directly in those systems. This makes tracking the status of orders, requests for service, and sales of new services as seamless as possible for your organization.
Update Tickets, Close Tickets, Push Status -- notify Sales that an Estimate is ready to help close the deal!
Whether it’s a Residential request, a potential Commercial Account; whether it’s inbound calls from your market generating the requests, or its Sales & Marketing proactively generating lists of serviceable customers to pursue --- we are here to help.

How does it Work?
We know every customer operates differently, and there is sometimes a pronounced difference in how Sales & Marketing interfaces with the Engineering department. Some groups send EVERY request for service to Engineering to get a “Serviceable” or “Not Serviceable” answer (for addresses either not in billing or never previously serviced), while others have tried building some “Serviceability” technical reps into the Sales & Marketing department. Some groups depend on answers from field teams, maintenance crews, installers, other field contractors etc. Others are trying web tools like Google Earth, Yahoo Maps, Bing, MapInfo etc with comparisons to existing maps and system prints.
Rainbow Design Services, Inc. has taken it a number of steps further – embedded principally in our knowledge of and development level expertise with the many available OSP Modeling, CAD and GIS solutions on the market. We have developed for our use – integrations with these platforms and many other data sources including Google’s MAP API, BING, TeleAtlas, NAVTEQ, D&B, USPS and many others aimed at generally performing the following:
1) Geocode the incoming address(es) - (Target)
2) Confirm the Geocode is accurate (visual cues, data from customer, multiple sources)
3) Overlay the existing Plant Record Data (Coax, Fiber, Strand & other (billing, D&B etc))
4) Measure from Existing Plant entry to Target. Measure straight line, road distance, best route etc.
a. Measurement methodologies can be customized
b. Key to a reliable result is that an OSP Engineer review each estimate & path
5) Register/Deliver the Estimate, Confirming Location Details, Plant Extension / Design & Cost Estimates
6) Record the Ticket in CRM / Database etc. (Push the status or Close the ticket for you)

Described above is a generalization. Each and every customer requires that deliverables and processes be unique and "configured" for that customer. Notably, the most commonly unique part of the process relates to providing a “Build Estimate”. Every customer has highly refined “Magic Mile” numbers, cost-per-foot to build extensions, and general rules that help to quickly identify the “Serviceable” / “Not Serviceable” customer. Once these unique variables are built into our processes, we are able to provide highly accurate build estimates, answers to serviceable or not and actual plant extension design with an average of a 2 day turn-around or less (a high percentage of the time within a matter of a few hours if desired).
KEY FACT: We provide a DEDICATED team of Serviceability Engineers to do this work (few or many depending on the scale of your need) – and these Engineers are all GIS, CAD, RF & Fiber Engineering trained. Most of these Engineers has spent years in production drafting, design and Fiber positions so you know they'll always understand your application and the issues your field crews, installers, construction etc would see in the field to connect each customer.
It is also important to note that we provide this service to customers requesting individual estimates sometimes in the hundreds per-week. This service can be sized to your needs, to your demands and even in BULK (typically to provide targeted Sales & Marketing lists etc at regular intervals).

We recognize every service provider has a different set of processes, different rules about the “Magic Mile” and at what distance and situation fits the “Serviceable” definition every time – but we also know everyone we work with needs better tools to provide more data, better data and to provide these answers more quickly!! Everyone has the same goal to get to the new business first, and these services are designed to do just that.
Rainbow Design Services can also place Field Survey / Serviceability experts in your system as well. If the scale of your need is such that you want a field survey done in specific situations, every time, or in a large enough volume that dedicated in-system field resources would make sense --- we can provide these resources. This option, combined with the Desktop Services described above is VERY common. It’s likely that there is not one perfect answer, but we can provide every option.
Please contact sales@rainbowdesign.net for a DEMONSTRATION of these services, to field questions on this product and any other offering from Rainbow Design Services, Inc. Feel free to call (316) 250-9857 and speak to sales as well.
