Transportation (DOT-ITS)
Rainbow Design Services, Inc. provides a multitude of services for State and Local Government and Municipalities. In our 20+ years of providing mapping and infrastructure design services and we have worked with many State and Federal agencies including the Department of Transportation. Rainbow has compiled a suite of services aimed at helping these agencies Engineer and deploy advanced services including but not limited to the following; Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Camera Networks, Traffic Monitoring Systems, Intelligent Signage, Congestion Management Systems, Roadway Operations & Mgmt systems etc.
All of the systems listed above are highly dependent on a communications network. Rainbow Design Services, Inc. specializes in Engineering, Mapping, Maintaining, Surveying and Documenting Fiber Optic infrastructures along with the Wireless, MAN, LAN and WAN systems they support. In our experience, many of our existing and potential DOT customers have Fiber Optic cabling pulled throughout their transportation corridors, but a very high percentage of the time those networks are poorly inventoried and documented, making them difficult to splice into and difficult to protect from damage and to repair in the event of an accidental cut. We specialize in field surveying, locating, mapping and documenting these systems, and in providing the results in a highly manageable platform that is easy to maintain.
Most, but not all Departments of Transportation use either an AutoCAD or MicroStation based CAD/Drafting platform to do road, bridge, concrete and structural engineering. Rainbow Design Services, Inc. has resident experts in the use of these products, and can provide your organization with Fiber Maps, Splicing Diagrams, Equipment Libraries and GIS Data in a format that will integrate seamlessly with these other Engineering applications and enable you to project your Fiber Maps on top of or beside your Road/Highway maps. The data we deliver will also provide outage location functionality, fiber tracing functionality, device and enclosure search functions, and even enable you to model wiring closets, equipment locations and the end devices/systems these networks connect to.
In Disaster recovery situations at this level of detail will enable your organization to locate and quickly re-splice systems, replace damaged gear and deploy repair teams accurately and immediately to the right locations. This level of detail will become integral when planning construction projects, and will serve to forever protect your ITS Systems from accidental cut and loss of services during these projects and your Project Managers will always know where to steer heavy equipment, back hoes and digging crews.
